Water Supply

It’s important when starting out that you find the correct water supply as without the correct water supply, your sprinkler system might not be able to be commissioned at the end of the project.

Below is your list of options:

  • Separate, direct un-metered mains supply from the road.
  • Shared mains supply.
  • Tank & Pump.
  • Inline pump.

Before the water supply can be decided, a flow and bar pressure test will need to be carried out so this can be compared to the sprinkler system requirements.

Depending on the results, there are options that are available to you to assist with the water supply required, these include: low flow heads and reduced capacity tanks.

Sprinkler Installation

We have a large network of fully trained engineers and office support staff, all directly employed, assisting with your every need. All our site supervisors are SSSTS carded and installers have obtained CPVC sprinkler training.

Non-working supervisors can be provided on large developments if required. Throughout the installation process all snags, Q&A’s, project sign off, and test certificates will be monitored and tracked using our custom CRM software.

On completion of the installation, a full flow test and signal test for the alarms will be carried out to ensure the system compares with the design calculations. This ensures full compliance with the design and the relevant standards. We will then provide ‘as fitted’ drawings and a commissioning certificate for Building Control, these will form part of the O&M manual and/or user’s guide.

Potential Costs Associated with a Sprinkler System

Below is a list of potential costs that need to be considered on top of installing a sprinkler system:

  • Electricians cost – we need to connect to an audible alarm
  • Plumbers cost for the water supply
  • Water Authority costs for a mains supply
  • Location of the tank and pump if required
  • Lagging and heat tracing of the pipe may be required in cold areas

Sprinkler Maintenance

Sprinklers should be inspected and tested yearly as a requirement of the British Standard, to ensure the system functions correctly. Any problems found need to be rectified immediately, as any problems can be very serious in the event of a fire.

Myths

  • Will all the heads activate in the event of a fire? – No. All sprinkler heads act independently of each other
  • Will they activate if I burn my toast? – No. Smoke on its own will not activate the sprinkler heads, sprinkler heads will only operate when they reach a certain temperature.
  • Will the sprinkler heads activate if my smoke alarm goes off? No. Sprinkler heads work independently to the smoke alarms.
